Hello Guys! Last year I bought a base model iMac 5K and it was working fine for me but my work has intensify and I would like to upgrade the CPU to an i7 and the HDD to and SSD . My question is: Now that Apple lunched the Eight Gen CPU’s in the new Macbook Pro. Can I opt for the 8700K(or any variant of it) instead of the 7700K?

Sorry not an option in your system the rest of the systems logic would need to be swapped out as well (which is not practical) your system is based on Kaby Lake the new 8th gen is using Coffee Lake architecture while similar it’s not drop in compatible.

hi Alex Castro your imac only upgare to high cpu but only same life and socket

This is possible,It has been done on motherboards from third party vendors, apples logic is no different, What is needed is a patch for the bootloader, or a spoof in the efi and the compatibility fix added to it that was done with z170 motherboards.Whoever does it first will get a ton of rep.For now though if you can get a 7700k, you wont be disappointing, And I wouldn’t hold your breath on anyone in the mac community putting as much trial & error and time into this.(Just saw that its quite a few months old, didnt mean to revive the dead thread).I also swapped in a 7700k from an i5, tricky but rewarding.
