Mac Pro Late 2013 CPU Replacement ‘Mac Pro Late 2013 CPU Replacement STEP 23. I can not remove the screws . A screw is changed shape …. What can I do ? Any help?. I am going wrong .. Thanks so much…!
I think I know what you’re referring to. A few months ago they started putting tamper evident stickers on the top of the 4 screws holding the CPU bracket in place. By applying light pressure to the center of the screw the torx 10 will puncture the sticker. It threw me for a loop too when I first saw it too.
The screws DO have T10 Torx heads. There’s just a tamper stick on top of the screws now hiding it. There’s no need to wreck the screws and the bracket (which apparently you did) with any kind of brute force with needle nose pliers. All you have to do is use the T10 screw driver and apply pressure to the middle of the “blank” screw. The T10 screw slot will reveal itself when you apply enough pressure, and then you can simply screw them out. You can definitely re-use the screws afterwards. It’s just a stupid black tamper stick that they stuck on top of the T10 torx screw. So definitely do NOT listen to Jon Spinella’s advice and wreck your screws and bracket.
