Hello ifixit forum friends! Help me save my 17" macbrook pro (2010) pretty please!!! :) So basically… I broke my leg recently and have had to rely on others with help getting around. Unfortunately the other day my lovely partner put a water bottle in my backpack, which leaked into where my laptop is (infuriating as I NEVER put liquids in that compartment because… well… it’s got a friggen laptop in it [although in laptop pouch]!!!) I’ve attached an image after I took it apart (i disconnected the magsafe because the spongey part was wet) and dried it off with paper towel and q-tips (no alcohol i wasn’t sure of that yet). I have not turned it on yet but it is charging… Is there any issue of using it before i try to offset the corrosion? Is alcohol really that helpful? I’m wondering for some advice if i can offset the corrosion, if that is even possible. If i try to upgrade the memory and graphics card if possible (video editing work so was thinking of upgrading that part). Would that be done with a new logic board anyways? Just wondering if it’s worth 2 birds with one stone kind of thing? I know 17" are hard to come by and I’d like to keep this bad-boy going. It was my brother’s laptop and he passed away last year so there’s some sentimental value to it too. Of course right ;) I’ve attached an image with arrows at the most obvious corrosion spots and I see some kinda faint greeny blue on the bottom left… hmmm… Thank for your help guys and gals!!! Kara
I like the arrows. So the white vinegar answer I’ve never heard of, or tried yet. Could be good. Try the guides with the water damage cleaning using 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol. Wait for it to properly dry, test it. If that doesn’t take you may want to bring it to a good repair shop, with an ultrasonic bath. To really clean out the corrosion
