Hi fellow fixers! I was recently given a late 2009 27" iMac running the Core Duo 2 3.06 chip. I’m wondering about doing an upgrade to the i7 860 Lynnfield chip that came as the top of the line chip in this model. I have the skills to do this, I’ve already had to pull it apart to get it running (HDD was stuffed). If I can get my hands on the chip, will the motherboard from the Duo 2 take the i7? Thanks in advance for the help people! Cheers
Won’t work. You’ll have to stay in the Core 2 Duo line. You can go to the iMac “Core 2 Duo” 3.33 27-Inch (Late 2009)3.33 GHz Core 2 Duo Processor Upgrade: LGA 775 (Socket T)(E8600) The i7 uses a Processor Upgrade: LGA 1156 (Socket H) UPDATE Drop more RAM and a new SSHD hard drive to kick it up RAM Type: PC3-8500 DDR3 Min.
