Hi.. My nephew recently bought an iPT 4G with a broken screen (white screen displaying) After trying all ways and tips on here how to fix it and nothing working decided it must just need a new screen replacement. However, when going to remove the display connector, noticed it was missing the copper tape that loops around it onto the logic board. I tried fitting the new screen anyway without it, but still shows white screen :( so was wondering if i can buy a replacement strip of this copper tape from anywhere, or would I need to buy a broken iPT4G for parts to take it from?..
Just fixed one with a persistent white screen… 1.) Copper tape is not super important–don’t get wrapped up worrying about it. Many out there working fine are like this. 2.) This iPod needs a hard reset—in the case of the one I fixed, we later realized that the top power button was not working. Therefore holding power and home to try and force a restart did not actually do it—white screen persisted. 3.) The alternate way to do a hard reset is to just desolder the battery, and then solder it right back in. Plug in to a charger to prompt phone to reboot—-Apple logo. normal screen. Second method–allow the battery to completely die to zero, then plug into charger. Many times the iPod touch needs a hard reset in order to cure the white screen problem. hope this one is lucky for you jessa
If the copper tape was missing someone inexperienced has already attempted to fix the ipod and most likely even further damaged it. people who are not careful or know what they are doing usually get white screens during ipod repair due to carelessness. replacing the copper tape wont fix this
