I have a 2008 iMac, and unfortunately the logic board is dead. I already confirmed it’s the logic board - the apple store took a look at the device. I wanted to give myself a project and try to convert this to a workable monitor - and primarily set it up to work with an external gaming console (Xbox, etc). Is this even possible? Is this even worth the effort or am I SOL? I hate seeing the Mac gather dust in the garage. Thanks in advance!
The Answer I hope is yes. I have a controler board NT68676 2A 1256 which has vga hdmi and dvi-d inputs with audio. a simple 4 button control board plus a cable to go between the controller and LCD panel cost around $30 from ebay.com cost me a bit more as I am in UK. The above controller is normaly use for smaller panels and supplies 12v to power the inverter for the LCD panel. I asked the supplier if I could provide the 24v for the iMac inverter would his controller board be able to handle the signal side of things, he’s said it would. I am looking with no luck yet to find the pinout for the power supply as from the work done on earlier versions G5 and 20 inch it would seem I will have to ground 1 pin on power supply to switch it on. if anyone knows the answer or has already done this would be most grateful if you could share it. Update I have today found this pinout from a power supply in the off state but possibly faulty, so if any one could supply pin out for the on state would be great PIN V 1 GND 2 +12 3 4 4 5 6 GND 7 GND 8 +12 9 +12 10 +12 11 12 GND
If you are talented and experienced with small electronics it is feasible. ‘Personally - I would sell the machine as is on Ebay take that $ and put it towards a working x-box. If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
