my 10 year old imac G4 will not boot. i need to recover the data from the hard drive, is there any hard or software i can get to do this to remove the hard drive and recover the data on another computer
If you have access to another Mac, connect the two machines wit a firewire cable. Boot your iMac with the “T” key pressed. After a while the screen should display a moving firewire symbol. This is called “Target Mode”. Now see if the iMacs disk shows up on the other Mac. If yes you can copy your data.
You will have to remove the hard drive connect it to another computer of course. There is hardware available to do this like USB caddys etc, bare in mind if your mac is 10 years old the hard drive will be an IDE connection. You can then get programs which will read Mac hard drive
take out the hard drive, and then connect the hard drive to another computer as slave drive or external hard drive, you can then access the hard drive and get your data. If still have problem, you can download this data recovery program.
