Chosen Solution

Hi all - So I’m wondering if anyone has any knowledge about swapping out the PCB (printed circuit board) on 1.8" HDD…. I have this Samsung model (Samsung HS16VJX - 1.8" HDD 160GB) where the OEM PCB is a direct to USB port. I need a ZIF drive (yes, for an iPod) and found someone with a PCB for a Samsung HS081HA 80GB 1.8" ZIF Hard Drive. Thought about purchasing it and hoping for the best, but would prefer to have some confidence behind spending the money. Let me know. Much appreciated! Jason

Hi, you can try it. But every drive has a memory chip on the PCB that stores unique informations about this certain hard drive. If you buy a PCB from another drive the stored informations may not fit to your drive.

I have successfully received the PCB,I replaced the BIOS chip on the PCB by the original and it has worked perfectly.I was able to retrieve complete information from the hard disk. Wish this can help.

I own exactly the same drive (HS16VJX ) and I’m looking for a PCB to salvage data. @jcarter: it appears you chose @crib’s solution, but it’snot clear wheather it worked for you or not? Did you do as James Yu wrote and replaced the BIOS chip? Thanks in advance, Calagan
