Hi all,
I have an old Compaq Presario v5000 laptop that I use from time to time for older games. I took it out recently and powered it on only to find that the screen remained black and the computer unresponsive.
The specific situation:
Screen is black - connecting it to an external monitor yielded no resultsThe CD drive clicks every 2-3 seconds as if it is trying to read from there.The hard drive icon on the front of the computer flashes occasionally.The fan does run but will then turn off after maybe 20-25 seconds.Holding down a key does not result in the response noise.

From the above, it seems like the computer is not booting up properly. I would appreciate any help in diagnosing the problem. Thank you very much!
