I replaced both an iphone 6 and 6s display assembly- with an ifixit display assembly replacement kit. The replacement went well on both phones. The only problem is the brightness and colors. When the brightness is moved to the lowest setting the phone is almost black (on both phones). I keep the brightness level on the lowest setting when I’m in a darker room but now it isn’t possible after the display replacement. In addition to the brightness issue the color tones are off on the new displays (both phones). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the replacement display kits to see if there was a loose cable/ribbon. The brightness and odd color tone is an issue with both phones after assembling the new displays. I have tried a hard re-set with no luck of re-storing the original color or brightness settings. Is this a function of the LCD screens that are aftermarket?
It’s possible that this is a replacement screen issue. iFixit sells both an aftermarket screen and an near-OEM screen (called Choice). I remember an answer from an iFixit employee that detailed all the differences but I couldn’t find it (there is this one - https://meta.ifixit.com/Answers/View/833… - but I remember another one being more recent). Either way, iFixit stands behind their parts so if you do have issues, they will replace it. The Choice screen will have better glass, better color (better LCD) and more solid flex cables as well as being assembled with a cold press glue process which is superior to the hot glue process of the aftermarket screen. One way to know for sure is to re-install the original screen, assuming it isn’t damaged beyond repair. If that works properly, from both a brightness and colour perspective, then you will have confirmed that the issue is with the replacement screen.
