When I close the lid on my macbook1,1 the system does not go to sleep unless I use squeeze the left edge of the laptop. in other words, I need to use moderate pressure to squeeze the lid closer to the keyboard before it will go to sleep. I presume there is some type of sensor installed in the lid and base. Is this true? If it is true, can I make it more reliable via an adjustment, or is there a part that needs replacement? Thanks, Mitch
Hi Mitch, welcome to iFixit Answers. A magnet located a the left edge of the display enters in contact with a sensor located on the battery charging board (under the top case) when you close the display, this action triggers the machine sleep function. If your display is a little twisted there could be a gap between the two components causing a bad contact and the macbook sleep issue. Check if your display is closing firmly to the top case. There could be a hinge problem. Was the macbook dropped ?
