When I turn the ignition on, all of the lights on the dash turn on and then go off. But the check engine light never turns on. How do I make it come on?
I would also think that it is a good thing if it does not come on :) but I think I see your issue. IT just does not come on at all, even when you just turn the key to the start position where all the lights and gauges come on? I suppose there could be any number of reasons for this but I would start by checking the actual bulb and the PCB of the instrument cluster and go from there. Not sure if this helps, sorry.
Prior owner/seller probably pulled the bulb out so the buyer wouldnt see the check engine light was on….or its just burnt out. Its possible its a PCB (printed circut board) problem on the gauge cluster, but highly unlikely. Replace the bulb. Or swap it out with the ABS light (or something) as a test.
When you turn ignition to “On” position the engine computer is supposed to run some checks and turn on all the warning lights such as Battery and etc. and then they are supposed to turn off once the engine is running. What he is saying is that during this check, the check engine light does not light up. He is asking what does this mean? Does that mean the ECU is fried and no good? In other words, what he is saying is that if he were to disconnect an engine sensor such as the MAF or IAC valve, he does not get a check engine light on and when he goes to read the codes, the scanner says there are no codes. What does this mean? ECU fried?
ok most of time its a fuel system issues a lot of the time go to fuel cap pull it off inspect the seal around the cap any tear or signs of wear. Replace if necessary. after 5 or 6 drive cycles it will turn off. if it comes on again or stays on, go to your local part store and have them read the code with the scanner. its free. you may have to replace the cap. They might also tell you its an o2 sensor, ask them to show you on the car where it is. then buy a 02 sensor and replace it your self. saving you about a $100. remember any light that comes on in your car go have it check out and do the work yourself. saving you lots of cash. nick

OK let’s say that maybe there is a possibility that the van was not manufactured with a check engine light ?
On a Ford the check engine light operates a little different from other vehicles in that it goes off after cranking while on others it goes off after the ignition is on for a second or two. Frankiedon
I think u must check the fuses for good contact and to check if no any fuse blown
I got a 1994 Chevy Blazer Silverado K 1500 Suburban is a 5.7 v8 my check engine light doesn’t come on even after replacing the computer program to my VIN and marrying the key to it through the steps from the dealer. If I had gas directly to the throttle body in a run but not on its own. Fuel injectors are new fuel pump and inline filter are new and I just did a tune-up on it. It still doesn’t run all the wiring is clean and I just don’t know what to do. nybody I have any help or Solutions
