After installing a Mac OS Sierra Update In noticed that my 2011 15 MacBook Pro began to dim and brighten at Random. Then I noticed that the batter charging indication in the menu bar would go from solid to outlined in sync with the screen dimming. When awake the Battery takes forever to charge but when asleep it charges just fine. So I am currently charging the laptop full, then unplugging it and the dimming brightening flickering goes away. Please Advise, Jose
It was the SMC controller. When I upgraded my other unibody 2011 & 2012 MacBook pro’s to MAC Os Sierra the same thing happened. Odd that every one of my 4 laptops had the same issue after the upgrade….
I had a similar problem on my late 2008 Macbook Pro years ago. I found that dirt had built up where the magsafe charger connects. I just cleaned out the caked on dirt with a wooden toothpick and that solved my issue.
