Ok I think my Hard drive is on its way out. Now what can I replace it with as far as a larger gig one and when and if I do replace it how do I set it up to be ready to use? I know how to replace it ( took one out of a friends to put in a new case and whatnot before) I would love to have more space cause I have filled the 30 gig but am a cheap miser and dont wanna go buy a new ipod if I dont have to. I would get a touch but I just got the 16 gig iphone 4 as a gift from my fiance, and I only use my ipod at work but really would like more room for more music and movies. Any help would be appreciated. I should also mention that I am kinda wanting to rebuild this pod due to scratches and wear and tear. The headphone jack works ok but the switch is shot and the screen is scratched up pretty bad as with the back, also the click wheel has started to act a little quirky as of late. So would it be wise to rebuild or just suck it up and go get a 160 gig classic? I can get a new one from apple for 249.00. Thanks in advance for any help or advice
Fangz1994 this was my answer to a similar question. The 5th gen Classic drive is interchangeable but beware that the 30GB use a slim drive. So what you need to look out for is the thickness of the drive. There are 160GB ZIF drives that will fit but the bigger the drive the more you are going to pay. I’d get a 80GB for your iPod which is reasonably priced and readily available. Highest possible capacity for a 30gb iPod 5th gen? shows you some more on this. As for your case, I replace those all the time on my rebuilds and get them out of china for about 15$ The headphone jack cables is also available for a few $$ Not a bad job and I would think, depending on your HDD choice you’d be looking at $60 and up for a rebuild…Oh yes, make sure you get a HDD cable as well. Good Luck
