Re-install the original Lightning port to see if it works. You don’t have to do a full replacement, just plug it in (disconnect the battery first!) and lay it on top of the one that is fully installed. If you can get the old one to charge but not the replacement, then you have a defective replacement part.
Might just be a bad part, happens even with the best of them. If you can get your money back, I’d try returning it and ordering another one, that way you’ll be able to either fix your phone or get a definitive answer on whether or not you have larger issues.
