Chosen Solution
Hello everyone, I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. And recently my keys have been typing in pairs. 34 comes out when typing 4 df comes out when typing f cv comes out when typing v er comes out when typing r I had wiped my Mac down with isopropyl alcohol and am afraid I may have short circuited my keyboard. These problems stop only when typing in CAPS LOCK. What should I do? What is main problem ? How costly would it be? What is the solution? Thanks -D
This is indicative of a shorted out keyboard. Did you also spill something on it besides just cleaning it? UPDATE 8/5/17 Normal alcohol is 30% water. If it’s still doing it after a week, you’ve shorted it out and will need to replace it. Please give us your exact model and I’ll see if I can get you to the part and guide to fix it. Overindulgence with alcohol is never a good idea. Hopefully this experience will remind you of that fact every time you attempt to do so in the future. Experience is a brutal teacher. https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/3b2a2f4f-96… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hkp_L-u1… How to replace it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEs6Nl34… Part: http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-New-Apple-Ma… UPDATE 2 An Apple store will tell you that you have to replace the whole uppercase. They will probably be asking $450-$600. They do not do that type of component repair. However the price on that part has dropped dramatically. Replacing the keyboard is a very difficult repair and takes me 2.25 hours. It would take a noob probably four hours and then hope you got it all back together. The uppercase repair is just difficult.
