I have power for the radio and cd but when I switch to tape it will not run , just the display indicates “TAPE”. The belt drive is not damaged and it seems that the motor will not run . Is there a test I can do on the motor ?

If you can, touch the probes of a multimeter on a voltage range on the connections to the motor, and see if you can see some volts when you press Play. Are you sure the belts are ok and the motor isn’t turning? If it’s some years old the belts may well have perished and gone slack. It would be somewhat unusual for the motor to have failed.
