I tried to repair my husband’s iphone 5s, broken screen and not charging. First I fixed the charging issue (replaced both the battery and the charging dock) and it seemed to work fine. So I replaced the screen - again, it seemed to work, but I forgot to check if it was charging. The same day my husband plugged it in to charge for a few minutes before going out - he doesn’t remember if it actually charged or not, although the phone seemed to be warmish. Later on the phone died and now it won’t charge. It shows the charging symbol when plugged, and the “plug me in” symbol when being unplugged, but the phone stays dead. I opened it up again and realized the 2 capacitors next to battery were in the wrong place - I believe it’s c275 and c22. I must have damaged them when disconnecting battery before replacing screen. I took them out very carefully, but it didn’t solve the problem. I’ve read somewhere here that the phone should still work without those capacitors. Is it possible that them being in the wrong place when phone was on charge caused some damage to either battery or motherboard? Is it worth trying to replace battery again, or is the problem more likely to be elsewhere (and therefore probably not worth the hassle)? I’ve checked the other components near by and it all looks fine. Any help would be appreciated!
The component you need to verify is FL11 (see below); that one has to be in place. Sometimes it can be only partially dislodged and still cause problems.
I’m not sure what you meant by C22/C275 being in the wrong place, I assume you meant they were floating around. They could be touching other components while the phone is being handled and causing similar symptoms to FL11 being damaged. Remove them as the phone can work without them.
