I have a mid 2014 macbook pro retina display, and it seems to have a crack in the screen. I can still see my whole screen and it doesnt appear to have an discoloration. Is it possible to replace just the glass? or how do you know if the lcd is messed up as well? I just dont want the crack spreading more.

The retina displays come with the LCD as part of the glass that surrounds the display. You would have to replace the LCD (the part is upwards of $300). A local technician could easily do it for you if you’re not up to taking it apart yourself. But you will need several specific tools to even get started. Good luck!

The cover glass is not really removable! The best you can do is replace the LCD panel as you can see here MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown. The problem is getting the part shipped without getting damaged as its size makes it more fragile shipping. Personally I recommend just replacing the full assembly as being easier.

You didn’t answer the question. There’s a HUGE difference between replacing an LCD assembly, LCD unit, and the glass on a MacBook with a Retina display. The first one, as you say, is easy. The second one very difficult and risky. The third one is practically impossible, unless you have some serious and expensive equipment. If you can replace the glass only, there a multimillion dollar check with your name all over it and way more business than you can handle.

I have LCD panels shipped all the time….with are you talking about? If packaged properly they’re fine. Haven’t got a cracked or broken one ever

Where can one find replacement Lcd only for 2013-2014 15 inch Retina display?
