Yes you can. You will need to follow the iFixit guide to removing the display assembly, then this guide for replacing the LCD. You will need the manufacturers part number to know what LCD to purchase. To get the LCD part number type in or copy and paste the following string in to the terminal: ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed “/[^<]*</s///” | xxd -p -r | strings -6 After executing the command you should receive a set of digits and numbers. If you want to determine the manufacturer of your display, simply take the model number generated in Terminal and type it into Google. Usually various OEM part listings will show the name of the brand for your particular LCD screen.
How can you type that command to check the model number of the screen if your screen is broken??
I used the guide provided by ABCellars and managed to replace the Macbook Air LCD panel. Unfortunately the video doesn’t exactly match the assembly I worked with. In my case, the LCD panel was glued to the frame. The back-light and diffuser assembly is separate and it was glued as well. Fortunately, I managed to remove the LCD panel without damaging the back-light assembly. Just a few small scratches while removing the broken glass of the LCD. Perhaps the most complicated screen replacement in my experience. Thanks for the guide, it helped.
