Chosen Solution

For a little over a year now, My MBP has been having this issue. While in normal use, the keyboard and track pad will become inoperable (When in windows, the sound of a usb device being disconnected occurs). I found out that if I press on the area left of the track pad, the keyboard will reconnect. I have considered this a minor annoyance up until a few days ago where the the keyboard/trackpad wont work unless I hold on to the aforementioned area. Is this even fixable or should I just sell this MBP for parts and get a new laptop?

This fault is well known. The little USB controller on the PCB under the trackpad is failing / desoldering. It’s the square chip visible when you remove the battery. There are basically three methodes to remedie / solve this:

  • cowboy: fold a piece of paper and pich it between battery and chip.
  • homebrew: Take a small tip soldering iron and retip all the solder joints ( magnifiere required)
  • luxury: replace the topcase.
