Can the CPU be upgraded by the user in the new 2019 iMAC 21.5”?

Hello cpu, ram and hdd is upgradable.

Yes, But… You’ll need very special tools if the CPU is mounted via BGA. Otherwise, if it’s mounted via socket, you can upgrade it to a later version as long as the CPU structure and pin arrangement is the same as the original. However, be warned that opening the Mac will void your warranty. You can’t get Apple components for replacement easily, because Apple keeps those under wraps and exclusively avaliable for licensed Apple technicians only, so definitely don’t damage anything! Good luck.

Yes it can. It uses a regular intel 8th-9th gen wicket with a Q370 chipset. Idk how the cooling will handle let’s say a 9900K, but it is possible

What is with the i3 Quad Core. Can i Upgrade to an i7 or i9? I don’t know it the same with the upper Answers. What Kind of CPU I can Upgrade. For example a i7 8700 or a i7 8700k ? I bought an SSD and a larger Ram and would like to change the CPU right away. My basic configuration is an iMac 4k, 21 inch, i3 quad core, 1TB HDD and 16 Gb Ram. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hello, I’m planning to upgrade my 21.5 inch sometime this month, Thought I would mention that the wattage of the PSU is only 185 watts. If you have any variant with the AMD Radeon Pro 560X (75W) and install the 8700k (95W), you may be inadvertently putting unnecessary load on the iMacs power supply. In saying that varies articles do state that at max load the CPU should only draw around 87 watts. That combined with the rating for the X570 (75W) means that at peak, want to emphasize the PEAK part. Your max load wattage will be around the ballpark of 175W. Its less 170 watts, but added a few watts for ram and HDD and also increases with fan rpm. If you have the Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4GB of HBM2 memory, you may be over that threshold as it uses 100W opposed the 75W of the 560X I will let you guys know how I go with the upgrade once i have completed it.
