Ive had issues with my Briggs which had no filter. I had to keep remving the crab and cleaning the jets. Finally I just cut the fuel line and put one in. It works fine now… If I where you Id go get a cheap inline filter then take off the carb and REALLY clean it. Use small wire to run through the tiny jets and lots of carb cleaner last NEVER use ethonol gas in it. I go to my local small plane airport and buy AVGAS which is regular unleaded HIGHER octain with NO ethonol. Its cheaper to buy it this way then in the quarts in brand names like TRUE GAS etc good luck
