Good afternoon, I have an iPhone 4s (I believe that’s what it is anyway) that has been badly damaged. All of the glass on the phone, front and back, was totally smashed. My husband purchased new glass and other parts to repair it but in the process of putting it all back together on of the “ribbon cords” (that’s what I would call it on a computer anyway) snapped. I still have the old logic board and battery in a drawer in my tool box. The board has been knocked around a bit with the other things in the box. It has also had nail polish remover (100% acetone) and water spilled on it. I have dried it out as best as possible but was curious if I somehow can hook this board into another phone? Really all I want to is to be able to get enough juice to pull off old pictures and such. Is this even possible or has too much damage happened to the board? Will the logic board have the stored memory on the phone (pictures, text messages etc.) I have recovery software (Dr. Fone) that I can run if I can get the thing to power up.

I would just buy another screen and not trust the liquid damaged phone’s screen. You can just plug in the screen cables without needing to install to the logic board when the back cover open and metal plate removed for most of the cables. Make sure to unplug battery before plugging in the screen though. Then you can boot up the phone and recover the data from it after unlocking via passcode. By the way you don’t need Dr.Fone you can just use 3Utools which is more superior or iTunes for iTunes backups.

The answer is yes, once you have a working logic board you can swap other components without losing any data. Since yours has been through a lot, before install check carefully that all parts are in good shape, possibly with a magnifier and a good light source. If the data on it are kind of precious to you, it would be the case to also lift up the metal shields protecting components and inspect carefully that there are not water or acetone or suspect stains under them. Unless everything looks perfectly clean inside, you better take the board to a phone lab or a jeweller for a proper ultrasonic bath, and then let it dry long enough.
