I have an old iPod 5Th gen video logic board w/ a damaged battery connection. I also have several 1.8 iPod HD’s I’d like to re-format, chck for disk errors with my PC. I can get a zif-to-USB adapter but I thought I might use the old logic board with the HD attached via the ribbon connection through the logic board charging connection, which would be to my PC USB port. This may be a stupid question but here goes anyway. TIA for any answers.

As long as your logic board is recognized by your computer and your can use the clickwheel to place it in disk mode, it might just be possible. If you are handy, you could try and solder a cable to the points where the battery connector was. Attach alligator clips to the other end and attach those to a battery or other power source to see if it gets recognized. It might just be cheaper to purchase a Zif to USB adapter for about $5 at various places, but most certainly not as interesting;-) BTW this is not a stupid question. Actually a pretty good one. Good Luck.

Does it work? I’m having the same issue, and where I live I cannot buy one adapter in any store, so I have to buy it from China or US, but it’s gonna take some weeks, so i’d like to know if it’s really works. thanks
