I have a MacBook Unibody Model A1342 with what I think is a broken Magsafe DC. I think it is the Magsafe because when I connect it to the charger it will not light up or anything and even if the battery was dead the computer should still power up when I have the charger connected. I have a friend who is willing to give me their old MacBook Model A1181 and I want to replace the Magsafe of the A1342 with the A1181. When I looked up the A1181 Magsafe DC I found it looks the same but the A1181 Magsafe doesn’t have two holes for screws. So if I found a way to hold down the Magsafe would it be fine just to use the A1181 Magsafe for the A1342?
Yes you can use a A1181 DCin board to troubleshoot A1342, A1278, A1286 and many other logic boards but you wont be able to install it in any of theses machines cases without bottom case modification and this could be a big hassle for à $10 part in the used market.
Your system (A1342) - MagSafe Board 922-9176 Your friends (A1181) - MagSafe DC-In Board 922-8268 As you can see they are very different parts. Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Unibody Model A1342 MagSafe Board Replacement
