Have a 2006 A1176 U35(last 3) Macmini1,1. I saw this answer in one of the past questions: “Officially this only supports 2GB of memory. However, the ability for this particular machine to handle 4GB of memory is well documented.” It was a different model. Does this apply to mine also? crucial.com only shows a 2GB kit (1GB x2). Thanks in advance. David

The CPU is upgradable on this machine, see this question: Core Duo CPU upgrade to Core 2 Duo CPU?
Yes it can be done, update the firmware and replace the CPU with an Intel T7200, T7400, T7600.
2GB is it for this model as far as I know. May be a hack for this but never seen one.
the mac mini 2006 and 2007 have the same base, with the factory processor that came with the mac mini 2006 which would be 1.5 or 1.66 would max out at 2gb, you will need the Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz T7600 processor to be on the safe side that has a max out of 4gb so upgrade the processor upgrade the ram, then what you could do is install 10.6.8 and after that use the work around to install 10.7.5 which can be found on youtube its basically a trick to use a restore image once you have 10.7.5 use mlpostfactor to update it to 10.8.5 then use mlpostfactor for 10.8.5 to update it to 10.9.5 and i think thats the farthest for now (after 10.6.8 all other os installs i mentioned are unofficial upgrades that would run fine based on apples requirements all which can be found on youtube by searching the os number with unsupported mac and you will find it) so to cap up your bringing new life into your mac mini 2006/2007 by upgrading the processor to its max maybe get a 1tb sata drive or any sata ssd, max out the ram to 4gb do all the worarounds untill you get to os 10.9.5 and there your close to up to date
Where can I find the Firmware to go from 1,1 to 2,1 for the mac mini? Help! Help!
