My track pad is not ‘clicking’ as normal; is feels like a mechanical problem even though it appeared after some water went into the case (and was quickly removed - there doesn’t appear to be any other damage). I’m being told it means replacing the entire ’top case’ but it seems separate track pads are available for sale (or am I mistaken?) - does anyone know if the track pad can be replaced separately on this model?
Well… Yes & No. Apple may not supply the touchpad as a separate SKU (I don’t think anyone has access to the service manual yet). But you can find a few on eBay! Here’s one: Apple Macbook Pro 15" 1707 Late 2016 2017 Trackpad Touchpad Silver. Frankly, it’s an easy swap out! Unlike the older models where you need to remove the battery Apple gave us access through the battery cells! Here’s the location of the screws (12):
We don’t have any guides yet so you’ll need to reference the MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar Teardown
