Hi Community. I got my dad’s old MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 A1398. It works (even the battery does now!), but the keyboard backlight is broken due to liquid spill. Also, it has Danish keyboard. I would like to fix the keyboard backlight, and on that occasion maybe also change the topcase so that it has US keyboard. I work in English so its a bit easier with the US keys and it is of course much easier to find a US keyboard than Danish one. Now I found a good condition A1398 topcase US key for sale, but it is from the Mid2015 version. Basically will that easily fit my Late 2013? Thanks in advance! Simon

No you cannot I learn the hard way A1398 models can be different it all depends on the year

Well what I can tell you is the P/N’s are not the same, Apple rarely duplicates parts under different P/N’s unless its a rev’d part (newer/better). These are different due to the trackpad being replaced by a touchpad which uses a different mounting setup. Sorry you can’t use the 2015 case with your 2013 system. 15” MacBook Pro Upper Case & US Keyboard (13/14) Apple P/N 661-831115” MacBook Pro Upper Case & US Keyboard (15) Apple P/N 661-02536 The bigger issue is what is within the assembly! Apple offered the uppercase in two ways just the case with the keyboard or as a full assembly with the battery and often with the trackpad/touchpad. Given the systems age I would get the assembly with the battery as transferring a already worn battery makes little sense as you are due of a new battery.
