Can I replace the 2015 iMac retina display with a lower resolution 21.5 2015 iMac display?

Sadly just like replacing tires you need to stick with the correct size! As you can see here the display data cable is larger as it needs to carry more lines of data! The box is the exact same size between the two images.

So no you can’t swap it out.
