Can I install a late 2011 17inch logic board into a mid 2010 17inch MacBook Pro ? I Own an older mid 2010 MacBook Pro 17inch and have been offered a late 2011 MacBook Pro 17inch logic board and want to know if it will fit. I realised these MacBooks are old but I love the unibody, ports, cd drive ;), bigger screen(I know its not retina but its still great!)
Yes, you can fit a 2011 board into a 2010 Mac, but take also in consideration you’ll have to replace the battery as connectors are different. If I may give a word of warning I would suggest stress testing the graphic card with a benchmarking app such as Valley from Unigine to make sure it’s working nicely before purchase or right after it, if it’s an online purchase. I love 17” Macbooks, I have one myself I’m keeping dearly until it lasts, but many have had graphic card issues.
