Chosen Solution
I replaced the battery. I was super careful - no problems ie accidental rough handling. But now when I receive a phone call, the call is super distorted. I have done a hard reset. The speaker works fine (I removed it during the repair) and my microphone works well too. Calls via Bluetooth are normal. Can anyone offer an insight as to what might be wrong? Thanks.
It was the small cable connector to the cameras and speakers in “the notch” at the top of the screen. I should have tested Facetime before closing the case. Interesting that the connection sort of worked ie. distorted not silent. The connector was sitting on top of the socket in the correct spot, but moved easily when I touched it. Very relieved!
