I plan to use my 2017 iMac as a display, following the instructions in this YouTube video. That will leave me with everything besides the monitor outside of the iMac case. My question is this: has anyone put these components together in an alternate form to get a working iMac without a monitor. Will the iMac logic board even boot up without a LCD panel attached? Alternately, we could leave all the logic in the iMac case, but then we would need to mount the iMac display panel in an alternate case. Has anyone got an example of this we could use as a guide? Thanks for any pointers!
A - The logic board requires the display to function, the SMC logic needs access to it and the fans Otherwise SMC will assume there is a failure which will push the CPU into Safe Mode with a much lower clocking B - The logic board is setup to be housed in a vertical configuration. Over the years people have tried none that I know of who wanted to do the same as it wasn’t worth it.
