This drive is out of warranty so my only option would be fixing it if possible. The drive is a Buffalo MiniStation Thunderbolt bus powered drive that also has USB 3.0. The thunderbolt stopped working yet the USB 3.0 works fine. I have two of these drives and the other currently works with thunderbolt. Is there any way to fix the thunderbolt port? Thanks
This guide is probably for an older model, but you didn’t tell us exactly which one you have. It may help to be able to open it up and repair it: Disassembling Buffalo MiniStation External Hard Drive (Thunderbolt & USB 3)
It depends on how it was broken. If the connector is loose, it could need re-soldering. If there is an onboard problem–due to heat, power outage, or any number of other factors–you may not be able to fix it without spare parts, replacement components, and/or a schematic. My advice to you would be to contact the manufacturer. Even outside of warranty, you may find that you are able to get an out-of-warranty service or part replacement at a reasonable price.
