Okay so for the second time the glass has cracked on my iPhone 3G screen. I just recently paid to get it fixed for quite a large amount of money(for me anyways) And a few weeks later it has cracked again right off the ’ear speaker’. So I have decided to do it myself, and I’ve noticed there is a repair kit on this site, and I am wondering if is the same quality screen that apple uses, because I don’t want a crap screen that will do the same thing. Any info on that would be greatly appreciated, as well as for any other information I should be aware of for repairing my iPhone 3G screen. (just to clarify things the LCD is fine)
Hi, The screens available on this site are of good quality, i’ve bought a few and they have always been good, you don’t notice a difference. The person who fixed your phone for “quite a large amount of money” would have also used a similar quality screen if not the exact same one. The glass is in fact VERY hard to replace, especially if you don’t know what you are doing. I regard myself as quite an expert when it comes to repairing devices and i find it difficult. It involves needing to heat the glass and surrounding areas with a heat gun, melting the adhesive substance that binds the glass to the frame. You then have to clean off the excess adhesive and use a new batch or use the old remaining substance to fix the replacement glass back on by heating it up again. Shards of glass are involved, a potentially dangerous heat gun has to be used and it’s just over all a very unnerving experience. My best opinion is to just buy a complete front assembly replacement and do that instead. Good Luck.
