I’ve been trying to fix my old laptop for a while now. Recently, my new replacement fan came in for the MSI CX62 6QD, it is the same model from the same company (AAVID THERMALLOY PAAD06015SL). However, when I plug the fan in, it doesn’t work. Turning on my computer makes the fan shake slightly, but then it doesn’t move after that. I recently put a new hard drive into the laptop so there isn’t any OS yet. Could that be the reason the fan isn’t spinning yet? However, my old laptop fan spins when I turn it on, so could it be a manufacturing error? The new fan power connector is black instead of white for some reason, but they look identical apart from that. Edit: Here are the images of my old fan and my new fan: On the left, is the new one and on the right is the old one.

Edit 2: Closeups of the white connector, front and back. (Sorry I wasn’t exactly sure what you meant by this but I hope this is what you’re looking for)

@dacelynn if your old fan still works and your new fan does not, the issue is with the fan. There is a possibility that it is wired differently or simply a dud. Return it and get another fan based on your fan/computer ( make sure you pay attention to the “nxxx” numbers as well. There are differences. Update 25/4/2022 @dacelynn you’r original fan is a PAAD06015SL N318 and the wiring on your replacement fan is reversed. Replace your fan with the proper one or get the soldering iron out and reverse the power wiring on your replacement fan

@dacelynn Have you got a DMM (digital multimeter)? If so connect it across the red and black wires and you should get a resistance measurement. It should be the same for both fans. I find it interesting (odd?) that the red and yellow wires seem to be reversed where they enter the fan. The wire colour arrangement at the plug end seems to be identical. The yellow wire is the sensor wire and if it were reversed with the battery wire (red wire) at the fan motor end, the fan wouldn’t operate. I am loathe to suggest that you gently peel off the label in the centre of the fan to see if you can see anything as this would void any warranty from the seller. Send it back for a replacement

Wanted close ups of both connectors and the wire connected to each pin…but it’s ok just make sure it matches the diagram.

*edit Man that’s a long wait. If anything take some good old wire strippers and some electrical tape orwire caps and cut the end off ur old fan and put em on your new fan.
