Completed the guided battery replacement, the mag light shows orange as if charging, but the MacBook only turns on if plugged into ac charger and charge status shows no battery. I did notice evidence of corrosion on old battery control board (white powdery substance) and I reopened the case to make sure the new battery was securely plugged in. Not sure what to do now… Photo is of old battery control board

Further inspection shows there’s water damage to the logic board (red dot here too):

Oddly it only affects the power delivery, the device otherwise functions fine. My partner swears she never put any liqueds close to it and that it just developed this problem out of the blue. Not sure if it’s worth $4-600 to replace - but I wish I had known it was more than just a battery issue before I spent $$ on a new battery…

The red dot tells me this system got wet! Which explains the corrosion damage on the old battery. Sadly, it rarely effects just one area. Its time to remove the logic board and make a full inspection of the both the logic board and the I/O board as I’m suspecting there’s more damage.
