Device: iPhone 6 Plus, 64gb Service: unlocked iOS: 9..? Can’t remember Issue: my original iPH6+ got touch disease and Apple replaced the phone with a new one. But I’m starting to think it wasn’t a new phone; maybe refurbished. So the new one worked for about 6 months then started to randomly turn off and sometimes get stuck in a boot loop. The phone has never been jail broken, or altered in any matter. It got to a point if I didn’t leave the screen on or something running (like playing Spotify) the phone would die. And then reboot loop would commence and sometimes I couldn’t get it to turn on and work for over an hour. I did everything Apple told me at the Genius Bar, restored and what have you. Nothing worked. They said it was internal/hardware because there were hundreds of error logs, they were unable to fix it. Well, I’m determined to fix it! They said I can trade it in for a price. I got a new iPhone but I want to get this one working. So, the phone was rather easy to open. Like almost too easy! So, where do I go from here?!
First of all, Apple did not replace your Touch Disease phone with a new one; it was a refurbished device, ironically, probably one that had Touch Disease in the past. That means this phone, or at least the logic board inside it, has a certain history…it was probably twisted and flex enough to cause the issue. I’m speculating here but it;s probably close to the truth. As for fixing it yourself, you most likely have a logic board issue and fixing that requires specialized tools and understanding of electronics. You could try to do a good visual inspection, look for obvious signs of damage such as (partially) torn flexes or signs of water damage. You could also try to disconnect everything except the battery and Lightning Dock, connect it to an iTunes enabled computer to see if it boots properly and is recognized. That would give you an indication that the problem is with the screen or peripherals. Start with that and report back.
