Using either a mesh or extender will use what it can connect to the base. To make this work you often need a few remotes (mesh) to get the full bandwidth of the 5.0 GHz band. Clearly your other alternative here is to extend your wired network if you can route the wire between your base Router to the more distant location you wish to connect into. Then, place a second WiFi router at this location.
