Hello, say I have two PC’s, PC A and PC B. If I bless a mac os x hdd from pc a and put it in pc b, will it recognize the os? Or does blessing a hdd write the os’s name to the bios/mac itself? (or related. I’m no tech genius.)
Generally you don’t need to ‘Bless the drive’. Really the only time I’ve needed to do it if I used a cloner app the new drive would need to be blessed. This was with the older versions of OS-X. I don’t use cloners any more as I’ve had to many issues with them. Some not related to the cloner app its’ self but malware being carried over by it. I think your real question here is if I configure a drive in one system will it work in another? So lets review a few things: The OS-X version your drive is setup with needs to be supported by the system you are putting the drive into. So make sure the OS is compatible. The Startup Disk setting is held in the systems BIOS settings (EFI) so swapping out drives you could have an issue. But! As it turns out if you hadn’t set the setting the OS will hunt for a bootable drive across the internal & external ports and boot up under the found bootable drive. The last point here is you can also control which drive you boot from if you have more than one bootable drive by pressing the Option key after the boot tone. You’ll then be taken to the Boot Manager interface which will allow you to select which drive to boot up from. Once booted you then can go to the Startup control panel to set it.
