Chosen Solution
Greetings all. I’m a little new to the Mac world. My iMac turns on, I hear the tone and fan, but the screen is black. When I connect to an external, I get video. With a PC, that means replacing the LCD. Is the solution the same for an iMac?
You’re probably right about the LCD being bad, but there could be more to it. First up, can you see anything when you shine a light into it? If you can, then there is a backlight issue. It could be the driver board, backlight controller on the logic board, or the display backlight itself of it’s fried. If that is not the issue, the display connector on the board could be damaged in one way or another.
