Title really says it all. I also get the chime when I start it up and the backlight works. It does the same with different display. I also tried switching the hard disk but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Thank you.
Try an LCD cable. If it still has the same issue, and does the same thing with just the charger port, fan and screen plugged in, the problem will be logic board related (probably LVDS_IG_A_CLK circuit issue, usually L9080 burns out when the screen is messed with, so it sits on a black screen). What is the history of the device?
