My bin cover came off. How do I attach it easily as have arthritic fingers? Update (12/14/2017) Need to reattach my bin cover.
Hi, Here is a link to the ifixit Dyson V8 Absolute Bin Replacement guide. Hopefully it is of some help to you. Update (12/16/2017) Hi, Here is a video which shows how to attach the bin lid cover on a Dyson DC07 vacuum cleaner. Whilst it is not for your particular model I think that the principle of connection is the same.
Having looked at all the suggestions, I wondered what made the lid come off so easily as mine did? Most said it was banged against something or knocked. So I realised that knocking it must do something. You know what , it does. It compresses the round plastic circle into an oval shape. So I compressed my bin by squeezing it with my fingers across the open top at 90 degrees to the latch and hinge pin. Guess what? The hinge pin holes flex slightly outwards allowing you to ease the bin lid pins back into place. Easy peasy . No brute force, no danger of the pins breaking. Just squeeze across the diameter of the top of the bin with one pin hinge of the lid in its hole and the other will slot into place, Voila!
Hello Donna I had the same problem on my V8 absolute. I tried to fix the lid back on but was deterred in case any of the plastic snapped. I contacted Dyson and as my machine is under guarantee, they are sending me a new bin. In the meantime, as i had nothing to lose in trying to force the bin lid on, I did so and it worked. I used the same principle as the guy in the DC07 Video above. As you have arthritic fingers, I would get a friend/neighbour to help you to squeeze the lid back on (on the basis that you won’t be angry if the plastic breaks - like me, you have nothing to lose at this stage, as you will be receiving a new bin). I hope it works. All the best
I know this is late coming but my bin cover just came off so… I was in the same position as you. I aligned one of the plastic tab in position or in one of the holes. While keeping the inserted pin tab in position I aligned the other pin square to the first and use pressure to push it down, it snapped in place. It takes some pressure to snap the last tab into the remaining hole. The tab plastic is tough. Remember to keep the tabs in alignment while applying the doward pressure.
Same issue. I agree with other solutions BUT….make sure you have the cover in the all the way open when you force it back on. I just about gave up until after one side was in I tried opening it all the way and it slipped right in. Also a tiny bit of WD 40 helps. Wayne Kordek
Owned 2 Dyson V6 and this happened to me twice where the lid just came off when I accidentally hit it into something. Anyway I just positioned the head down on the carpet with the lid on a wide open position and angle the lid a little bit so the right side goes in first and put a little pressure down and it should snap back in place.
I stumbled upon the answer - it takes v little force. You need to take the lid past the fully open position - if closed is zero degrees open it to 270 degrees so it’s positioned with its back to the drum and as you rotate it back to zero insert the pins and they click in without effort!
The bin cover came off and was completely shocked. Luckily, the tabs didn’t break. I was able to get it back on. I first dismantled the bin from the machine. I placed the bin upside down with the bin tabs facing me. Note, I placed it on non-skid material (like used under carpets or to grip a jar lid) to prevent it form moving. I then carefully aligned one tab into the bin slot and gently tried forcing the other tab in but it wouldn’t budge and I was afraid to break it. The next time, I tried again and at first I was having the same problem. But then, I tilted the cover a little backwards to me, so it was angled and I then applied downward pressure and it snapped in fairly easily! It caught me by surprise and at first I dint think it worked, but it did! Now I can see how it must have come apart by being puled off on an angle. So the TRICK seems to be angling the cover to get the second tab into place.
RobertGuyPowell nailed it! Squeeze the canister once you position one of the pins. Snapped right back. And I’m about as strong as a hummingbird! Thank you! Saved me 23.00 plus S&H.
