My MacBook Pro was very warm when I used it last night without the cord. Still showed decent charge when I was done. Didn’t charge it overnight. When I went to use it today, it was dead. Plugged it in to charge and powered it up. Came back from Sleep mode(?) as I didn’t have to log back in. Indicator light on plug in is green, however, Battery symbol on top bar of screen just shows an “X” instead of remaining battery life. I unplugged cord and computer shut off. Plugged it back in and did the same turn on from sleep mode. Am I safe to think my battery is finished? If so, since this is a unibody, what’s my next step?

Stop spending money! Let me try to help you. Here’s what Apple says to do on a Black battery X: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1359 Most Best Buy techs have less than 3 days of training. Everything has to be shipped off to a real tech for two weeks because they don’t know sh*t. Then they charge you thru the nose. I’ve been repairing Apple products for 37 years, and I’m doing this for free! Who are you going to listen to? Legacy machine means they are to lazy to study. I’m repairing a 1984 128k Mac now.
