I had an account with Sprint with this device before, but I canceled and am now looking at going back. Anyway, I called customer service in order to get my old number back, as that was going to be a huge factor in whether or not I would go back to Sprint. After a long time on the phone, they said they could get my number back, and I agreed to restart my service. I had to charge my phone, though, as it was dead, but when I did, it needed to be reactivated. I wanted to do this right away and customer service was already closed, so I researched how to activate it manually. One of the suggestions was to take the battery out, so I took the phone apart and did just that. When I put it back in, though, it wouldn’t charge or turn on. I hooked it up to the computer, same thing. Nothing. I took it in to the Apple Store and they hooked it up to something that could tell them if there was a current from the battery (not sure if I’m saying that right), and there was nothing. The tech said that based on that, the motherboard must be broken or fried and said that I would just need to get a new phone. Does anyone have any suggestions as to something else that I could try? TIA.

Sounds like you either damaged the battery cable / battery plug or the battery terminals on the logic board. I’ve ripped a iPhone 4s battery cable once, but that was when I opened the phone for the first time. What did you use to lift up the battery clip? Hopefully not a metal prying tool as you may have shorted something on the logic board.

Hi, it’s plugged into my computer at work now- i do usually get the ’trust or not’ pop up, but i havent today its as if the computer has not even recognised that a device is plugged in. quite strange though ive been checking my phone and the charge is going up by a 1% every 20 minutes or so. but no charge symbol on my phone or notification to say that there has been a device plugged in to my computer- strange. It is about 2 years old and has literally just this morning stopped charging properly. It turns off because battery is flat, and then charges up a bit, turns on - shows about 4% charge and then stops charging, and battery drains until it turns off. This has been happening for the last 5 hours. I updated iOS v7 about 2 months back, and it hasnt done this before. I am wondering if there is - A) a bug that Apple built into the updates to get people to replace their iPhones after a few years B) a fault with the iPhone4s that no-one is talking about from Apple as it will be too costly to admit that??Hi. I came across this blog because I just had the same issue. I’ve had my 4s for about 2 years, worked fine until yesterday night it would not hold a charge. Dock station, usb, several different chargers, still would not charge the iphone. I am guessing this is caused by number of things, over charging, crappy chinese made chargers, even car chargers that you buy at the dollar store. All in all I just found out there are two things to do about this instead of buying a new phone. I noticed that my 4s (*when turned off) it will detect the charger enough to power the phone back on, but when its on it will not charge. You can quickly turn off the phone after it powered on, with the plug still in. Whent he phone is off completely it will charge. I woke up this morning and it was 100%. Downside is that the phone has to be off. This morning, I found a guy on yelp local to me who explained that it was the charging function on the phone that shorted out, and it is easily fixable. Costed me $40, not sure if that was high or low, but the phone works now. Good luck guys!
