My trusty iPhone, just upgraded to iPhone OS 3.1, is losing battery life fast. I replaced the battery with a new item from iFixit, charged it overnight, and in 6 hours it is down to about 60%. Is there a way to reset it, especially the energy management (like resetting SMC on a MAC)? Any suggestions?

well, I have done 2 things - I reset the phone settings and switched off push email so far the phone seems well behaved. Unfortunately I don’t know which one of the 2 has fixed it - but I will switch push email back on once I have established the phone battery lasts as it should.

Just my advice since I have a 16GB 2nd gen. iPhone. When I upgraded to software v.3 it did not last even a day. I found the clue is to turn off all “push” settings in email. Set everything to “manual” and do it everywhere, also in the submenus. That gave me back my battery life at least.

Have you tried letting the battery run all the way down until the phone shuts off and then charging for several hours/overnight? That seems to be a common calibration procedure with Li-Ion batteries. Apologies if that’s what you meant by “charged it overnight” but I wasn’t clear from the question on whether the battery was empty before you charged it. In any case a full discharge/recharge cycle might help. Good luck!

Location services is a huge battery hog. Try turning it off (Settings > General) for a couple days and look for improvement. Do you have Bluetooth on? It shouldn’t be the problem, but might as well check. Is your phone jailbroken or unlocked? Those may also make a difference.

thanks - well it is jailbroken, and location services are off. it used to last 4 to 5 days in the sam elocation, same services on etc, and now it is dead in 10 hours. I even have disabled some stuff that was on before (internet access through the GSM provider) that is right - dead after 10 hours after being fully charged, and new battery …. something has to be wrong, but WHAT

Are you using the device more? 10 hours does seem pretty quick, but I’ve never had an iPhone that could last more than about 36 with any real usage. Did the decrease correlate with the update to OS 3? Did you re-pwn the firmware for the upgrade, or just auto-update in iTunes? I’ve seen some weird things happening with jailbroken 3.0; if you built your own, you might want to consider reinstalling it.

My iPhone 2g runs out battery empty for 2mins..

May be you installed too many programs on your phone, you need to uninstall some programs.

Apple told users that the battery recording function does not affect the battery life itself, but will take a larger hard disk space. Therefore, the proposed user to connect to the iPhone with the computer, the records transferred to your computer. When the iPhone with your computer is set to sync, this process will be automated.
