I got stuck… someone might help me. Iphone 6s water damaged, despite the short described below, the iphone boots up until “Unable to activate”, then will invite you to shutdown. The board has been thoroughly cleaned. There’s a batery drain, before powering up there’s a constant drain of 200mA. but nothing gets hot. After powering up requires around 400mA and most of the IC’s gets substantially hot to the touch. There’s a short in PP_GPU net. None of the 20 ish caps seems to be damaged nor the 4 inductors. Any clues are welcome. Thank you

Firstly how did you determine that you had a short on the GPU circuit? These lines have extremely low resistance so if you were testing in continuity mode you will defiantly hear a beep. Secondly you will need to relieve the short on the PP_VCC_MAIN before going any further. Thirdly I myself would not go any further with this device unless it was for learning. There is obviously a fault with the baseband components, probably eeprom or baseband CPU.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. Good to learn that continuity test cannot be used in all lines. I have spare boards and I’m waiting for stencils to reball the baseband. Yes, this is for learning, like a hobby, I can throw some more hours to it although I’m aware that most likely the iphone won’t recover anymore. Thanks
