My wife purchased a fan at target that plugs into the lightning port on her iPhone. It worked for about 5 minutes and then stopped. Since that event her battery goes from 100% to 0% within 4 hours. We have tried putting in airplane mode with wifi off, no change. I thought the new battery information in iOS12 may help identify the root cause. After upgrading the problem persists and it didn’t show any specific app as an issue. It said the battery capacity was 91%. I decided to perform a battery replacement anyway. I purchased a kit from ifixit and succeeded with no issues. The initial problem persists. The battery will fully discharge within 4 hours even when it is not used and in airplane mode. Any thoughts on what the issue may be and what I can do to resolve it?

The worst thing you can do is plug a bunch of random, low quality “accessories” into the Lightning Port. The communications are handled by an IC (Tristar) that has a tendency to fail if it doesn’t receive a clean signal. Cheap dollar store chargers and fans and whatnot have a tendency to produce spurious signals. The only possible repair is to have it looked at by a shop that does micro-soldering repairs.
