Chosen Solution

Hi, I have recently replaced the battery in my MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 after ordering one on IFixit. This all went well and worked perfectly up until recently. 2 months later my charger stopped working and would not show any green or orange light when plugged in so I bought a second hand one to see if it was in fact the charger. (I do not believe the new battery could have broken my charger but shortly after the battery stopped holding charge as well so this might be correlated.) The second hand charger was working fine. After using it for a week I am now seeing my battery condition as Replace Now even though I have only gone through 56 cycles. Below is a screen shot of my battery condition. I have already tried a SMC reset. I am now purchasing an original charger and will try with that one.

I have seen this unanswered a lot or people having to change the battery again. Hope this isn’t the case and that someone can help me! Thanks!

Ouch! That second hand charger likely did you in! Getting a real Apple charger for these older systems is getting hard! Apple no longer sells the older Unibody MagSafe units and you need find an Apple Store who will order one for you as you can’t even get them on line anymore either! So why is this the suspect? The cheap chargers damage the charging logic on the logic board as you can see here in Louis Rossmann’s vid What does knockoff charger do to Macbook Pro Retina?
