Hello, I have an iPhone 6 that started having problems after it was dropped and I replaced the screen and battery, at first i I thought it was the battery because it would turn on and be fine for approx 2-3 minutes than the screen would go funny colors and it would reboot, but I replaced the battery yet again and still the same thing was happening. I let it turn on one day and left it locked for a few minutes and viola it worked, but my battery percentage was really strange it would go from 100% to 50% down to 3% and stay there and the only way I knew the battery was low is if it shut off and entered a boot loop. Than I would have to plug it in and shut it down otherwise it would continue to restart every 2-3 minutes annoying, however phone still worked fine. Up until recently when I started having a “Searching issue” and one day I got mad and smacked it on my leg really hard and restarted it, I got full bars and LTE after that until the phone restarted than it would say searching and I would have to hit it really hard and restart it and let it sit for a few minutes and my service would come back no problem and the phone would work but I still had wacky battery percentage, now the phone has not warned me of any low battery or any prompt to plug it in when it shuts down due to low battery. I finally got fed up and took the shields off of the motherboard to see if any chips had gotten knocked off in the drop and found that the base band chip on the back of the board towards the bottom was cracked. Could that be my issue of restarting? Or is it possible that I have a bad u2 ic and base band chip? The phone will not stay on much past 2 minutes no matter what now I cannot find anyone else with the same problem or at least no one has posted it online. Any help on where I could get it fixed or a price quote or more preferrably whats wrong lol. Thank you
Smacking phones is generally not a good idea :>). The charging and fluctuating battery percentage would indicate a problem with Tristar (U2). What do you mean by this: Than I would have to plug it in and shut it down otherwise it would continue to restart every 2-3 minutes annoying, however phone still worked fine. It’s hard to say what caused what and when based on your question but I think it is safe to say that your phone has had a hard life. There may be multiple, latent issues with your logic board. Search for a micro-soldering repair shop in your area and they can maybe diagnose your problem.
Tony and crea are correct…only reball…Baseband, baseband eprom, cpu and Nand can’t be changed….as well as home button. Well, home button can, but you lose the touch id fingerprint. But what you described does sound like a Tristar (U2) and or Tigress issue with the charging issue. I guess if you find the right shop that has the equipment, you could replace baseband if it were programmed…but I have only read that and not certain. Nand can for sure…but you just can’t swap out with another ic unless it is programmed
If your baseband chip is cracked your phone is pretty much toast, as you cant just replace just the baseband chip, you have to replace eeprom. cpu, nand etc too as they are all paired together. It would be far cheaper to either get another board and put that in or a second hand phone. Bad baseband IC = non economical to repair.
Baseband modem often becomes detached due to the location of the screw holder following a drop. The only solution is to reball the modem
